My essential takeoff software features

What should you look for when purchasing takeoff software for your electrical estimates? In this video, Countfire Product Specialist Phil Kober lets you know what features are essential when choosing takeoff software for your needs.

You can read the transcription of this video below.

Hi, I'm Phil Kober. I've been an estimator for the past nine years and I just wanted to share a few tips and tricks with you that i've learned along the way.

These are the four things that I tend to look for in takeoff software depending on your budget and needs for your company.

The first thing you need to make sure is that the software is going to be easy to use. There's nothing worse than opening a new bit of software and having thousands of buttons that you don't know what they do staring back at you. Accuracy is another thing that's incredibly important for a takeoff software.

If you're ever in a meeting it's always really handy to be able to showcase to your directors or managers that you've got your quantities and takeoffs 100% accurate using check sheets. As well as being accurate, it's great if your takeoff software can increase your speed as well.

One company I worked for, we were having to push out 10-15 projects a month so the amount of time that you could dedicate to each project and reading specifications was hindered by how quickly you could takeoff the project. So being able to increase the speed and takeoff multiple drawings at once using the automatic matching feature really helps speed the process along.

I always find it's great if a software allows you to actually edit the drawings and mark them up so we can then submit that to the client and they know exactly what's included within our tender. It also gives off a more professional approach than if you were to just scan in a PDF that you've scribbled on with a highlighter and some market pens.

Deciding which take off software to choose can be really difficult, especially when you don't know what's going to fit your business type. I find that by using those four factors it can really help you make an easier decision.
